Hi there do you have any comment on this – I know you don’t want to go on tape – but it would be good to get some reaction.

Pressure on the Government has paid off for United Future.

It’s been lobbying since last year to have an independent complaints authority established to oversee the activities of Child Youth and Family.

Associate Minister for Social Development and Employment, Ruth Dyson, says following the representations from United Future, she’s asked officials to look at setting up such an authority.

She says the arguments have proven an independent authority has merit.

CYFSWATCH replies:

Hi Darren,

It would seem to me that United Future are getting way ahead of themselves, “talking themselves up” if you will.

The key words in the statement below are “look at”, and “has merit”.

Neither of these statements say “yes, we are going to do it”, and thus simply appear to CYFSWATCH to be more “smoke and mirrors” from a Labour Government still sadly out of touch with the people they claim to represent.

United Future have been “making representations” on this issue for nigh on 4 years now – why would Ruth Dyson only now show interest? Could it be that 126 of her Social Workers have been named and shamed on CYFSWATCH, that some now have police protection, and that the Ministry of Social Developments attempts to shut CYFSWATCH down have proved fruitless?

Our response Darren? our response is “bah, humbug”.

By the way, how come Newstalk didn’t pick up on our “Stone a CYFS Social Worker” campaign? Not like you guys to run from Helengrad – is it?
