The CYFSWATCH $10,000 “Put your money where your mouth is” MP’s Challenge.

There has been much debate about just what Sue Bradfords anti-smacking Bill will actually mean for parents.

The legal profession (including police, lawyers, and the Police Association), say that parents will indeed be criminalized for smacking their children, and that any parent who has a complaint laid against them for smacking can expect a visit from a CYFS Social Worker.Currently, 65 MP’s (collectively led by the nose on this issue by Sue Bradford and Prime Minister Helen Clark) say that no, parents will not be criminalized for smacking, and that no CYFS Social Workers will be coming to visit for something as “trifling” as a light smack.

CYFSWATCH says: enough of the debate, and enough of the semantics – it’s time for the current 65 MP’s who intend to vote for the Bradford Bill to have the courage of their convictions, and put their money where their mouths are on this issue.

The CYFSWATCH challenge to these currently 65 MP’s is a simple one. If each of you is absolutely convinced that by voting for Sue Bradfords bill, parents will not be criminalized if they smack their children, AND that CYFS will not intervene with a family as the result of a light smack of a child, then CYFSWATCH invites you to write a cheque for $10,000 out of your own pocket, and then deposit this money into an account nominated by an independent third party mutually agreed to by the 65 MP’s and CYFSWATCH.

CYFSWATCH will match the collective monies deposited by each MP dollar for dollar, to the tune of $650,000, and deposit this money into the same account (Total: $1.3 million dollars in the account). At the end of the suggested 2 year review period that has recently been nominated by Labour MP’s Clayton Cosgrove and David Benson Pope, another “review” will be held. This review will determine as to whether any parent has been criminalized by Sue Bradfords Bill in the same 2 year period, and / or as to whether any family has had an intervention from CYFS as a result of lightly smacking their child, as a result of Sue Bradfords Bill.

If the 65 MP’s who are voting for this Bill are proved correct, and that no parent has been criminalized, and no family has received an intervention from CYFS for lightly smacking their child  – then each MP receives both their own $10,000, and an additional $10,000 from CYFSWATCH – meaning CYFSWATCH pays a collective $650,000 (plus interest accrued over the 2 year review period) to the 65 MPs who intend voting for the Bradford Bill.

However, if in the 2 year review period, just ONE parent HAS been criminalized, and / or just ONE family HAS received an intervention from CYFS as a result of lightly smacking a child, then CYFSWATCH receives a collective $650,000 from the 65 MP’s who intend to vote for the Bradford Bill (plus interest accrued over the 2 year review period).

CYFSWATCH has their cheque at the ready – we now invite each of the 65 MP’s who are going to vote for this Bill to do likewise. Their reaction to this challenge will of course profoundly illustrate as to whether these same MP’s truly believe in what they are about to vote for.CYFSWATCH believes that our money is safe – the question is, do the MP’s truly believe that theirs is?

Good one, but the gutless wonders wont take it up.
