Eastern Bay organisation backs anti-smacking bill

Eastern Bay Women’s refuge give the controversial anti smacking bill the thumbs up.

Parliament is divided on the issue with heated debates about it this week.

Women’s refuge spokesperson Jeane Latu says the bill could be a big step in stopping child violence in this country.

She says some parents can’t control their aggression and shouldn’t be allowed to smack.

Mrs Latu is a grandmother who says she smacked her eight children but says she teachers her children not to hit theirs as a means of discipline.
