I seem to recall about 5 years ago when I worked for the National research bureau an independent market research company, the Ministry of Health commissioned a piece of research on smacking.

One of the conditions was Female interviewers only and females only to be interviewed.

I can’t remember the detail of the questions however they did canvass views on home discipline.

Smacking was supported by almost all the Wanganui surveys shown to me, and I think overall there was 80% support for smacking (There is that figure again) – Not violence or abuse.

The outcome was a statement by Steve Maharey to the effect “We have a lot of education to do” and the results were swept under the carpet.

CYFSWATCH replies:

“Education”, or “Indoctrination” Steve?
