Zilla Huma Usman, the minister for social welfare in Punjab province died after being shot just as she was about to deliver a speech.

The assassin, Mohammad Sarwar, was outraged she was unveiled and believed it was unislamic for a woman to be involved in politics.

It is believed Mohammad Sarwar had been involved in the killing and mutilation of several prostitutes before this but the was not prosecuted due to lack of evidence.

After his arrest Mohammad Sarwar is quoted as saying

“I have no regrets. I just obeyed Allah’s commandment,” he said, adding that Islam did not allow women to hold positions of leadership. “I will kill all those women who do not follow the right path, if I am freed again,” he said.

Mohammad Sarwar, Judge, Jury and executioner, the only positive in all of this is this particular man will probably never kill again, a small mercy.

The problem is there are plenty more like him out there.

He is a product of his culture and all cultures are not equal, we need to remember this and speak out loudly against those that do not respect human life and dignity. That isn’t prejudice, its common sense and self preservation.
