Justice must be seen to be done.

Ima Gooden is RIGHT!

2 April 2011

After many years of endless Victim Group Conferences, select committee hearings, policy review workshops, victim impact reports, time off work, loss of pay and no discernible progress we have been forced to abandon the ‘restorative’ process.

The social workers involved in our case no longer work for CYFS and cannot be located. Individuals still working for the department have been given immunity…when did that happen?

We’d like to take Ima’s advice and go to court – but we can’t afford it. We are in the 80% of NZers who don’t own our own home – our deposit went on legal fees fighting CYFS for our children -and we have no savings since we exist on the ‘average’ wage. Even if we won, CYFS would appeal and we would have to start all over again.

We have been constructively dismissed.

Ms Kerre Woodham, Chief Media Advisor to the Prime Minister, commented yesterday that people bailing out of the process were “career malcontents, unwilling to do the hard yards needed for real change”.
